Dear Friend
It has been such a long time since I have written to you and I miss doing that dearly. It seems that all of the letters I had written during the Thing Fair had not made it to their destinations. It is okay as I can recall all I had written in them. I will tell you where I am as I know that I won't be found and by the time you arrive to these lands, I will have been long gone. Please don't take it as though I am teasing you into trying to find me. Instead think of it as a little game to help you learn the map locations of Gor. As you can assume, I do travel often and when I do travel I take blank scrolls and ink with me to write you these many letters. It is fun and helps me not to feel so alone in this world. I appreciate you reading what I write to you. So, back to what I was saying about my location. I am in a lovely field of Sa-Tarna. Those long yellow grains blow heavenly in the winds as if they have no worries about this world. It is peaceful. The field I am in is located near Rorus; which is many pasangs south of Ko-Ro-Ba and many pasangs north of Sulport. My guard is with me in this wagon and you might be wondering why am I all the way out here in the middle of nowhere enjoying the view of blowing Sa-tarna, the Life-Mother... It is the most simple answer. I am out here because I want to be out here. I wanted a moment to be out in nature, to travel and explore for a bit. Doing so lights up the deepest parts of my mind and imagination.
This Sa-Tarna field is so wide and huge. I have not seen any Peasant as of yet. They will be happy to know that the bosk guiding my wagon have not eaten any of their yellow crop as I always steer them to the other side of the road to graze on grasses. The sun is beginning to set, so we will need to set up camp nearby. I much prefer to sleep in the wagon as is the plan. I will also do the cooking and don't mind doing it as my guard is a terrible cook. Cooking is a necessary skill to have for survival as I am sure most people understand it's importance. But something has stood out to me when I think back about my time in the villages and cities. I rarely see free women cooking for themselves in public eating places as they always expect a slave to do it. If a slave never comes, the free woman becomes angry and hungry at the same time. I have seen this happen before. They still continue to sit and wait, believing and hoping a slave will come and cook for them or beg to serve them. I will tell those free women something honestly and with deep empathy. Cook for yourself because usually, a slave won't come to cook for you unless you own the slave personally. I don't know why it seems to have become this way in many places I have been, but many slaves normally run by the eating areas, not greeting nor asking to serve anyone. It's as if some believe that them running by will make them invisible to a free person seeing them run by them. -Laughs-
Free women you should not have to starve while waiting to be served either. I have witnessed something else many times. If there are many men or two or three in an eating area and also some free women there, the free men get served and asked first if they wish to be served. Us free women are expected to just sit there, starving as we wait our turn to be served. By the time the slave gets to us, the slave sometimes runs off to rest some place. -Laughs- So, what is a free woman to do? Cook for yourself. It is the best way to get the food you want, when you want it without having to wait two ahns to finally be served. It is not worth the wait. Cook for yourself Ladies. I have done it before and I felt so liberated while doing it. I don't care if a man is being served first, his hunger has nothing to do with me. I WANT SOME FOOD DAMN IT! -Laughs- Ladies cook for yourself.
True, by stepping out of the normality of things you are sure to get a few glances from people here and there because you choose to cook for yourself and not wait for a slave to do it for you in a public setting. There is nothing lowly about making your own meals. Let me ask you something, would you prefer to sit and starve while keeping up appearances of dignity, but also still starving and angry with jealousy that a free man is being served before you? Or would you make it simple, get up, walk to the kitchen area, and make your own personal feast? I already know which one you would choose. I would choose the second option too.
Please be careful of some slaves making your food as well as they might put "extra" things inside of it. I remember watching some slave completely burn a free woman's food all the way that it turned black and smoky crusty. The slave served the free woman the obviously burned up dish and guess what the free woman did.... SHE ATE THE FOOD! Not only did she eat the food, she complimented the slave for making one of the best meals she had ever had. I was in shock as the food was smoking and black burnt, falling a part. Viewing that situation showed me that some free people do not pay attention to what slaves actually cook for them. Some do not pay attention to the preparation nor what is being set before them at the dining table. You must be watchful and mindful free women as some slaves do like to deliberately treat us badly and play innocent. Watch what you put in your mouth and the hands that make your meals. Make sure those hands are clean. Now, the other side of this is that there are some genuinely kind hearted slaves that truly make wonderful meals and serve with their heart free women and free men. Also, ladies, be careful of slaves that claim they only serve free men and not free women. Those are not real slaves, but pretenders. If you come across a 'so-called' slave that only seek out free men to serve but not free women, be them private or city owned, be careful around them. Cook for yourself because if you force those types of "slaves" to make you a meal, they might spit in it or do something else to it as they are not serving you with an open heart, but one begrudged into serving you something they don't even want to do. It is not worth the risk. Ladies cook for yourself.
Well, it is now night and I am laying here on the floor of this wagon and looking up at the three moons that shine so brightly in the clear sky. My guard is sitting near the camp fire, poking it with a stick. In the morning, once we reach one of the cities, I will be sure to pay extra to some Messengers to copy and send this letter to all areas of Gor, but for now I will get some sleep.
P.S. Cook for yourself Ladies.
Sincerely, Lady Outspoken
